Work is progressing on Leander ISD’s 29th elementary, located right here in Bryson.
North Elementary is slated to open for the 2022-23 school year and is named after Carol Ann North who taught for 22 years at Block House Creek and Knowles elementary schools.
Families gathered at The Backyard in Bryson recently for the unveiling of North Elementary’s mascot — the Navigators! School colors will be red and blue. Principal Lara Labbé-Maginel was on hand for the unveiling and to meet with families and soon-to-be North Navigators. Mrs. Labbé -Maginel has 28 years’ experience — 10 of them as a principal, most recently at Knowles Elementary. One of her many accomplishments includes piloting the Second Step curriculum, which was later implemented across other campuses.
Mrs. Labbé -Maginel says in piloting the school, she wants to capture the spirit of who Carol Ann North was — “Be kind. Be generous. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Love learning.”
Hiring is ongoing for North Elementary teachers and staff as construction crews continue their work on the school. Parents are starting to get involved, too, with the first PTA meeting planned for April 28 in the Larkspur Elementary School cafeteria.
